No other sensory organ has quite the same impact on a person’s appearance, personal aura and power of expression as the eyes do.
A clear, open look captivates and electrifies us and is quicker to win over the affections of the observer. Sagging eyelids on the other hand, leave the eye looking small and tired…
By removing sagging skin from the lower eyelids, eliminating tear sacs and by levelling out wavy contours, the eyes receive a younger and fresher appearance. They appear more open and more youthful and the tired look disappears…
By removing sagging skin, excessive fat tissue and loose muscle from the upper eyelids, the eyes receive a younger and fresher appearance. They appear more open and larger, and the tired look disappears. Raising the eyebrows can be beneficial in combination with an upper blepharoplasty (see also “forehead- lift).
One of the most common and noticeable signs of ageing is loose and saggy eyelid skin. Loose skin on the lower eyelid is mostly a cosmetic rather than a functional problem and in most cases causes an elderly looking and less attractive appearance.
In most cases the correction of the lower eyelid is performed under general anaesthetics but can be done under local anaesthetics as well.
For lower eyelid- surgery (lower blepharoplasty), the cut is made in the natural creases on the lower eyelid just below the lashes. In most cases underlying muscle is tightened and excessive fat is removed (tear troughs).
For stabilization and security reasons, the lower eyelid is often supported by stitches to the bony rim of the orbit to avoid a “pulling down” (ectropion) of the eyelid. An ectropion is unfortunately seen in cases following lower eyelid-surgery, when too much skin was removed. It can be avoided by an additional stabilization of the lower lid, which is called a “lateral canthopexy”.
Irregular contures of the lower eyelid can be corrected by fat transfer (lipostructure), wrinkles around the eyes are treated by Bo.Tox. (botulinumtoxin). The cheek and the naso-labial crease can be lifted by a lower blepharoplasty (see also “cheek lift”).
